MEET CHARLIE BROWN
He is approx 13.3hh and 18years old He was brought out in either the 1997 or 1998 muster. He has been working as a teaser stallion on a small thoroughbred stud for the last 10 years. He has typical exmoor colouring and hooded eyes as well as an emmense main and tail, we are pretty certain he is a northern pony. He has a deightful temperament. He was at least 4 years old when he was mustered and then he just ran with a mare for a couple of years. When the people had to shift they employed someone to teach him to lead and tie up so he could be floated to the thoroughbred stud. At the stud he has just been used for teasing and has not been handled very much at all. Since being here he is learnig to come when he is called, and we have had my seven year old daughter on his back for a little ride! I am planning to try and break him to saddle and harness despite his age. He spent an hour and half standing quietly while I groomed out his mane with his lead looped over my arm, while he dozed just enjoying the attention [I think] He has no bite or kick and is supposed to ignore mares if they are not in season. We are looking to take him to Waikato A&P show at the end of october so hopefully he will be ready to face the world then. Charlie Brown will only be going with a select few mares this season. His stud price is $300.00. If you are interested in putting your Kaimanawa mare to him please email gilsonandregan@ruralinzone.net
Our Society is very concerned with what seems to be the lack of good breeding Kaimanawa Stallions. We have none registered with our Society and we find that very disappointing. Unless we do have a number of Stallions, the Kaimanawa Breed could be a dying breed. I personally have been looking around as I would like to put my Kaimanawa mare into foal next season ... but without any luck. If there is anyone out there who does have a stallion, could you please email us. We would preferably like you to register your stallion with us, but if not, it is no problem as long as you can prove he is a Kaimanawa. We will place a profile of your stallion in this section. Are there any studs out there who could take on a colt? The next muster is likely to be the last. Please help us ensure a future for this unique and beautiful NZ Breed.
